The University of Illinois Hospital & Clinics (UI Health) is seeking a Director, Space Management & Planning to join our team of dedicated and highly skilled professionals. The Director of Space Planning and Management supports the development and execution of strategic space planning and management in support of the goals and objectives of the organization. Integrating the input from key internal stakeholders and external experts to create innovative solutions to optimize the utilization of all types of space. The position is responsible for the day-to-day space planning operations maintaining space inventory, performing spatial analytics, leading projects and report generations and communication.

Operations

• Assist Hospital leadership with strategic space planning to support growth initiatives and execution of the healthcare facility master plan. Collaborate with COM leadership as necessary to address common space issues.
• Perform spatial analyses to develop scenarios on the most strategic use of space and make recommendations on space assignments.
• Help develop short-term and long-term space solutions based on best use criteria.
• Assist management in identification of problems, trends and changes in space occupancy or capacity.
• Prepares related reports on space inventory, utilization and the cost of occupancy. Update inventory on a timely basis.
• Work with department directors to verify space inventory, understand growth projections, adjacency needs, and associated space/allocation needs.
• Assist management in the identification of space solutions including the preparation and follow through with any internal or external space request. Obtain and review lease drafts; verify accuracy of rentable square feet, cost and reasonableness of terms.
• Collaborate with HR, IT, Security and Hospital Finance to track hire rates when planning for space.
• Assist with the development of budget requests for facilities related to renovation, maintenance, and construction.
• Conduct periodic need assessments/audits of utilization and availability of space to assist with optimization and prioritization.
• Staff the UI Health Space Committee.
• Assist with buildout design and project management of remodeling.

Coordination with University agencies including; UI Real Estate, UIC Auxiliary Services, UIC Capital and Space Planning

• Ensure UI Health space inventory is up to date and accurately reflected in the university system.
• In collaboration with Hospital Finance, track and manage all space leases.
• Assist in the completion and follow through with all space request to the university.
• Collaborate with the UIC Physician Group and UIC Health Science Colleges to jointly optimize space for clinical care, clinical research and education.
• Represent UI Health on West Campus Space Committees and Task Forces .
• Represent UI Health on Illinois Medical District Space Committees and Task Forces.

• Bachelor's degree in business administration, engineering, hospitality, or a similar discipline required.
• Minimum of three (3) years of experience in space or project management required, preferably in a health care setting.
• Minimum of two (2) years of experience using technology and productivity software including Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and Project required.
• Ability to operate at strategic and tactical levels taking into account input from stakeholders.
• A combination of space programming, space planning, and project management skills.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
