The Hughey Lab is seeking a Statistical Analyst to join our team. The successful applicant will contribute to the research directions and culture of the lab. We're looking for someone who is eager to improve and not afraid to make mistakes.
Responsibilities will include:
* developing and applying computational methods to analyze biomedical data
* using knowledge of statistics and biology to draw rigorous conclusions
* communicating findings through written reports and oral presentations
* collaborating on research projects with other lab members
* taking initiative to acquire new knowledge and skills as needed
The focus of the lab is on using computation to understand biological systems relevant to human health and disease. The computational tools we develop are designed for various types of biomedical data, including genomic data and electronic health records. We are particularly interested in the circadian system, the network of internal clocks that drives daily rhythms in our physiology and behavior. The lab is part of the Department of Biomedical Informatics, the Department of Biological Sciences, and the Vanderbilt Center for Precision Medicine. Experience with and knowledge of:
* Programming in R (preferred), Python, Matlab, or a similar language
* Relational databases such as MySQL or Postgres
* Version control using Git and GitHub
* Unix-like environments and command line
* Statistics and machine learning
Performs development, maintenance and governance of data architecture.
Implements business logic at the lowest possible level of the organization.

STATISTICAL ANALYSIS (NOVICE): - Possesses sufficient fundamental proficiency to successfully apply statistical concepts in practical applications of moderate difficulty. Generally works under the direction of others while accomplishing assignments. Has retained equivalent knowledge from past experience.
DATA MINING (NOVICE): - Has demonstrated an understanding of analysis methods, design concepts, data organization, business models, capabilities and limitations. Has used at least one of the state-of-the-art software tools best for implementing the method.
DATA MODELING (NOVICE): - Possesses sufficient proficiency to successfully demonstrate the skill data modeling in applications of moderate difficulty. Generally works under the direction of others while accomplishing assignments. Knows how to integrate data modeling into an overall systems development methodology [SDM]. Is familiar with logical business data modeling using some of the prominent structured and object-oriented modeling methods. Knows the fundamental principles of conceptual data modeling using the leading Entity/Relationship Diagramming [ERD] methods.
METADATA ANALYSIS (NOVICE): - Possesses sufficient fundamental proficiency to successfully demonstrate the skill in practical data analysis applications of moderate difficulty. Navigates within established technology environments to locate, validate, extract, and format data for data analysis. Able to modify and run queries and standard reports from data tools and provide to users. Can identify data values and data sources. Is familiar with data modeling. Is able to interview business customers to elicit data requirements and understand the relationships between data items. Collects historical and forecasted call data to use for scheduling and staffing.
Organizational Impact: Executes job responsibilities with the understanding of how output would affect and impact other areas related to own job area/team with occasional guidance.
Problem Solving/ Complexity of work: Analyzes moderately complex problems using technical experience and judgment.
